Recently it has become public knowledge that the owner of this humongous 8,000 square foot mansion is a Dr. Ioan Cosmescu from Romania. It’s located right across from the famed Cathedral of the Cross. Since the Cathedral draws thousands of visitors a year, one could surmise that the owner of the mansion is not exactly a shrinking violet.

I could have sworn that my daughter built something like this on The SIMS!
The property was bought for 286,000.00 US about ten years ago and took almost that long to finish the house. The landscape is nothing short of a masterpiece, as you can see below, their koi pond is worth a cool million bucks.

It must be nice to have koi living larger than some people.
There has been lots of speculation of who actually owned the house. Many thought the honor belonged to Johnny Depp and others speculated that it was Nicholas Cage since he spent a lot of time in the city.
Dr. Ioan Cosmescu got his millions the old fashioned way…he earned it. He is the inventor of the laser scalpel used in LASIK eye surgery (winning!) among other inventions.

Nope, you can never be too rich….
If you want to see the inside of the mansion, take a look here. You know you want to. ;-D
Dr. Ioan Cosmescu recently sold this house to none other than….me! 😉
I actually remember seeing it when I was in Sedona a couple years ago. It certainly makes an impression!
Mike, I didn’t know that you were independently wealthy! lol
Yes, it does. We always stop at the Cathedral up on the hill when in Sedona. I once heard it was owned by the guy who invented LASIK surgery. It’s interesting to know he invented the scalpel used. Now I see a person who was once a proponent of LASIK is now saying it should be banned by the FDA. I don’t know if that will ever happen.
How much did you pay?
Oh-MY! Wow- I wouldn’t mind spending a little time there!!
It would be fun…that’s for sure.
Very nice place and great photos
Thanks, Eileen!
WOW, Renee, what a spread!!!
Beautiful.
Humongous, Marcia….I would get lost there.
That’s quite a house! Don’t know if it’s quite my style, but I sure love that setting. Nice photos, Renee!
It is a bit gauche, right? I love the setting too.
Wow Renee that looks incredible, also reminds me of some kind of crazy disney house.
Yes it does!
Pasar frente a esa mansión me hizo entender que no podemos detener por nada ni nadie si Dios te tiene algo nadie te lo quita no voy por esa casa voy por otra mejor porque esa ya es de Ioan la mía esta en otro lugar
WOW! Now I know why I should become an inventor. Great shots, and what a koi pond!
I know….science geeks are silently ruling the world….
Beautiful photos 🙂
Thanks!
That’s a cool property! It actually does look like a sims creation.
Yeah, it looks somewhat animated….

Esto es tan cierto. No hay razón para codiciar lo que posee otra persona. Eso es para ellos. Somos responsables de encontrar la casa de nuestros sueños porque está ahí para nosotros. Solo tenemos que trabajar duro para encontrarlo.
Too big for me 🙂
Agreed….I love roomy houses, but that’s a bit much.
Seria bien hacer una gran fiesta es muy frío fumar algunos de mis puros y hacer una BBQ tomar algunas botellas de tequila oh de mi ron dominicano seria genial
¡Estoy de acuerdo! Me gusta tu forma de pensar. Nunca he probado ron dominicano …. cubano … jamaicano …. Tengo que probarlo.
LOL….sad…you could house a couple of families in that garage can’t you?
Great pictures and I agree with you that the second photo looks like something out of The SIMS.
Beautiful Pictures!
Quite the mansion, I am more intrigued by the monument at the top though…where is that? It looks amazing!
I lived next door in the little brown house (they eventually bought it) when they started to build. They were the nicest people. They worked hard to get where they are – no one gave them anything. They donate and donate to worthy cause, the list would be too long to print. I miss not living next door to them.
Thanks for sharing your personal insight, Suzanne! I appreciate it.
Totally out of proportion and style – ruins the beautiful landscape of magnificent Sedona. After not visiting for many years I was very sorry to see that site from the Chapel of the Holy Cross. I heard the koi pond floods the neighbors.😔
Yikes! Thanks for sharing that tidbit, Jane! It definitely stands out, that’s for sure. Glad to hear an opposing opinion about the house.
hahaha … just had some tourists show me a photo of the house saying it belonged to Oprah …. not 🙂
Checked the Coconino County Assessor’s website and see that it is still owned (2019) by the Comescus.
That’s funny! I guess Oprah could afford it. It’s crazy how rumors are spread!
We were neighbors for 2 years in Phoenix, before they moved. This couple where the first people to talk to us after we moved in. You would never know how well off they are by the way they treated us. Very nice, Congratulation’s to you both as you deserve this beautiful property!!!
Wow, what a home! I don’t know why they would need such a large home. Too much upkeep. Interesting story though! I live in Arizona and have traveled through the area several times. Beautiful area of our state, which does attract many visitors.
