Day 14 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge and as promised, here is my second post of the day. Today’s post was a writing challenge where I had to write a short story using the phrase ” “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” which was penned by Hemingway. The story length couldn’t be more than 3 paragraphs and it had to be definitive. Here is my take and I hope that you enjoy it. And hey….go ahead and challenge yourself while you’re at it. What would be your interpretation?


She had already resolved to forgive him, but the universe had conspired against that probability. It was the first time that she’d seen him so vulnerable, so repentant. It was almost enough to make her forget how his hands probably touched her in the way that she knew so well. She remembered his confession and how he promised that it meant nothing to him. Ultimate Blog Challenge – “It Was A Dark and Stormy Night”

This is day 4 of the July 2012 Ultimate Blog Challenge! This was a writing challenge….it’s cliche that suspense and mystery novels begin with this one phrase that was coined by the novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton at the beginning of his 1830 novel, “Paul Clifford”. The challenge was to put our own spin on how such a story would unfold; not much to work with right? but that’s what made it so much fun to do! Since this is a challenge, I would love to challenge those who want to become better writers (like me) to give it a try and see what you come up with:


It was a dark and stormy night. Which was just as well, because then you couldn’t see the tears rolling down Janelle’s face as she sat in the car contemplating what her next move would be. The mansion was dark and foreboding and she knew once she stepped inside she would have to acknowledge everything that she had tried to ignore for the past few months.

It was a strange situation that she found herself in. After years of being the dutiful homemaker for the man who swore that he loved her more than breathing or at the very least his Majesty Prestigio golf clubs, she realized that she had to give up the fantasy that she once called her healthy marriage.READ MORE
