Pictures of New Orleans

September 20, 2011 • By

My trip to New Orleans in June was my first and was very enjoyable.  We didn’t really do much partying; we wanted to just see as much of the city as we possibly could.  But rest assured, we certainly visited the French Quarter while we were there and were treated to great entertainment and delicious food.

But true to its southern roots, the humidity was a bear.  The heat was palpable and very uncomfortable, so forewarned is forearmed.  Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated if you ever plan to visit in any month that does not end with -ary!  Despite temps that could send you to the brink of madness, good times were still being had.

I think one of my highlights were the old, Victorians that we saw as we rode the green trolley through the tree lined streets in an eerily quiet neighborhood.  Our cruise on the Creole Queen was relaxing as we took in the ambiance and beauty that is New Orleans, Louisiana.  I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Travel Photo Thursday – Piazza D’ Italia

June 16, 2011 • By

Today’s pic is a shot of the Piazza D’ Italia located right behind the Loews Hotel in New Orleans, LA. It’s a venue where outdoor events are held or is simply a place where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

It was built in 1978 and restored in 2004 a year after the Loews debuted. It was conceived as a tribute to the contributions of Italian Americans to the city of New Orleans since most of the focus seemed to be directed at the French and Spanish.

On a side note:  I wasn’t quite aware of the Spanish connection as it relates to the city until I learned that after the great fire in 1788, most of the french architecture was destroyed. The Spanish rebuilt the city, so the architecture is decidedly in that style and was made even more-so six years later when a fire of similar scope destroyed even more french style buildings.

Flying High With The Loews in New Orleans!

May 31, 2011 • By

Full Disclosure: During my stay in New Orleans, I was a guest of the Loews Hotel which was arranged by the very sensational New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau.   However, my review is and will always be my honest impression of my time there.

Loews Hotel in New Orleans

Here’s a transformation for you.  Take one Lykes Brothers Steamship building, a cargo shipping company that was located in the central business district of New Orleans, convert it into a four star luxury hotel and rename it the Loews New Orleans Hotel.  The management realized the value of opening one of their flagship hotels in such a premium segment of the city and wasted no time in purchasing it.  In 2003, their efforts resulted in 285 hotel rooms and suites, an upscale restaurant, a chic bar and 13k sf of meeting space, including the elegant Louisiana Ballroom.  Meeting planners will be interested to know that the hotel offers a unique rewards program.  Check out Loews MVP for more information.
