When I travel, I like to walk as much as I can when I’m sightseeing. Not only is it great exercise, but it certainly beats trying to capture a snapshot from the top of a double decker bus. I think if you’ve made the effort to come to another town/city/country, you should want to see said area up close and personal.
But, if you’re geographically challenged like me, you may need some outside help to keep you on the straight and narrow. I like using “Streetwise maps” to keep me from getting lost. After plotting exactly which hot spots I want to see, I circle them on this laminated accordion folded map and use it as a guide to steer me from point A to point B.
The maps are very easy to follow, landmarks, hotels, parks and metro lines are highlighted and they are continually updated. Streetwise Maps can be found at any bookstore or on Amazon.com for about 7 bucks. So, dust off your walking shoes, clip on a pedometer and challenge yourself to learn five new things about the city that you’ve chosen to visit.
