When I travel, I like to walk as much as I can when I’m sightseeing. Not only is it great exercise, but it certainly beats trying to capture a snapshot from the top of a double decker bus. I think if you’ve made the effort to come to another town/city/country, you should want to see said area up close and personal.
But, if you’re geographically challenged like me, you may need some outside help to keep you on the straight and narrow. I like using “Streetwise maps” to keep me from getting lost. After plotting exactly which hot spots I want to see, I circle them on this laminated accordion folded map and use it as a guide to steer me from point A to point B.
I used to LOVE the Streetwise maps. They were always my go-to maps. I like the fact that they’re more durable than most. You can spill liquid on them, and they aren’t ruined. Sadly, I can no longer read the tiny, tiny print on most maps any more, so I have to rely on GPS or print maps (with enlargd font) off Google.
I understand! As a person who wears bi-focals, it can be difficult. I usually end up circling landmarks so that I can easily locate them. I like the google maps too.
I do a lot of walking when I travel. Although, small print doesn’t cut it with me these days. I can barely read the lonely planet. However I can circle and highlight. Great post Renee,

Yes, a lot of people find the small print to be a problem….but this is just an alternative for those who aren’t techies and prefer the old school way of doing things. I just bought one for NYC, so it’s still something that I use.
I loved using those maps back in the day and I still think they’re great. The small print is annoying but still very useful getting you in the general vicinity. GPS can never fully replace old school maps!
